منگنز بیشتر در آب های آهن دار با دامنه ای کمتر از آهن وجود دارد. اشکالاتی که در اثر حضور هریک از آنان بوجود می آید شبیه یکدیگر می باشد وروش حذف آهن بر منگنز نیز تأثیر می گذارد . منگنز بیشتر در آبها وجود داشته و معمولاً مقدارش بیشتر از ۳ ppm نمی باشد این عنصر ،مانندآهن از محلول راسب می شود و به فرم هیدروکسید منگنز قهوه ای یا سیاه رنگ در درون لوله های انتقال ، شیرها و غیره دیده می شود حضور منگنز تولید یکسری لکه های بد رنگ می کند . مقدار منگنز برای اکثر اهداف صنعتی نبایستی بیشتر از(۰.۱ ppm ۴) باشد و جهت تعدادی از فرایندها ، مانند تولید کاغذهای نرم و نازک ، این مقدار منگنز هم به عنوان آلوده کننده مطرح می شود .استاندارد اداره بهداشت آمریکا در این مورد بیشتر نبودن منگنز بصورت Mn درحدود ۰.۵ ppm ? در آب آشامیدنی را توصیه می نماید .
