ابتدای فعالیت صنعت برق تا سال 76، مجموع ظرفیت نصب شده برق آبی 2 هزار مگاوات بوده و از سال 76 تا کنون 2500 مگاوات یعنی 120 درصد به ظرفیت برق کشور اضافه شده است.و در طول برنامه چهارم 4تا5 هزار مگاوات انرژی برق آبی وارد مدار می شود که حاصل اجرای پروژه های سدهای بزرگ آبی است.
مدیر عامل آب منطقه ای خراسان در مراسم افتتاح سد حاجی آباد قائن به وضعیت کاهش میزان بارندگی و خشکسالی در جنوب خراسان اشاره نمود و گفت: با توجه به آثار متوسط بارندگی دراز مدت 175میلیمتر در منطقه قائن، 42 درصد کاهش بارندگی داشته ایم و 60 درصد از مساحت استان که عمده مناطق جنوبی استان را شامل می شود در محدوده خشکسالی شدید و متوسط قرار داد و تنها 25 درصد از مساحت آن در وضعیت طبیعی و 15 درصد در بخش شمال استان خراسان از وضعیت بهتری برخوردار است.
وی با توجه به فراوانی آب شور در مناطق کویری استان خراسان ، پروژه پرورش آبزیان آرتیما را یک پروژه اقتصادی و مفید ذکر کرد و آن را به عنوان تجربه ای برای سایر مناطق کویری کشور دانست. هزینه اعتبار پروژه مساحت سد حاجی آباد قائن را یک میلیارد و 300 میلیون تومان عنوان نمود و کفت: 300 میلیون تومان آن از عنایات خاص مقام معظم رهبری در سفر به منطقه جنوب، قسمت عمده این اعتبار از محل طرح توسعه جنوب خراسان تأمین و مقداری نیز از محل اعتبارات طرح های استانی هزینه شده است. وی مشخصات فنی این سد را نوع خاکی با هسته رسی، ارتفاع از پی 44 متر با طول تاج 400 متر و عرض 8 متر با حجم مخزن 6/5 میلیون متر مکعب با توانایی تنظیم سالانه 18/4 میلیون متر مکعب آب ذکر کرد که قادر خواهد بود 568 هکتار از اراضی پایین دست مربوطه به روستای بم رود را آبیاری کند.
